Sen. Panfilo Lacson’s Parent Welfare bill, which would enable older people to ask courts to mandate that their children provide for them financially, has drawn criticism from the Kabataan Party list.

According to the party-list, the government should prioritize caring for the next generation rather than threatening them, and it is necessary to encourage healthy families.

The party-list also blasted the bill for failing to consider children as retirement plans and for failing to enact legislation requiring the return of debts of gratitude.

Additionally, the bill instructed local governments to build senior housing in their communities. According to the Palace, the Family Code already mandates that citizens take care of their parents and that parents provide for their children.
Older citizen discounts are among the perks and initiatives the government already offers to help older people.

The party-list urges the youth to continue supporting the government and not be overly critical of the administration’s efforts for the older people
