UN probes

The UN investigated systematic torture and cruel abuse, including beatings, electric shocks, strangulation, and fingernail removal, at Myanmar’s detention facilities.

Since 2018, the IIMM has submitted over two dozen formal requests for access to Myanmar, all of which were denied.

The report also detailed how authorities abuse children, often wrongfully imprisoning them as substitutes for their absent parents.

The military has blamed “terrorists” for unrest and denied perpetrating atrocities on numerous occasions.

The study examined information from 1,300 sources, analyzing trends and patterns across various sectors for the year ending June 30.

The IIMM discovered high-ranking commanders among the offenders, but they chose not to name them to protect the subjects of the inquiry.

A military coup ousted an elected civilian administration in 2021, triggering a national crisis and renewed unrest in Myanmar.

Additionally, the IIMM supports ongoing UN litigation in Britain while pursuing other international judicial actions addressing human rights violations globally.
