PNP: Nationwide Rallies Mostly Peaceful

The Philippine National Police (PNP) reported that nationwide anti-corruption rallies on September 21 remained “generally peaceful,” with authorities handling only a few isolated incidents.
Acting PNP Chief Lt. Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. praised police for protecting participants and maintaining public safety. “Our officers worked tirelessly to keep everyone safe. A few unruly protesters set a trailer truck on fire near Ayala Bridge, but most rallies continued peacefully because participants cooperated with authorities,” he said.
The PNP deployed over 50,000 personnel nationwide, including 29,300 officers in Metro Manila assigned to Civil Disturbance Management (CDM) units.
Authorities arrested 49 individuals—36 adults and 13 minors—for illegal assembly, direct assault, malicious mischief, and resisting police. Police said protesters threw stones and caused property damage, while officers sustained at least 70 injuries while controlling disturbances.
PNP spokesperson Police Brig. Gen. Randulf Tuaño thanked organizers and participants for following the rules. He commended officers for showing “courage, sacrifice, and dedication in keeping everyone safe.”
The rallies commemorated the anniversary of martial law under the Marcos dictatorship and highlighted current issues, including alleged anomalies in flood control projects.
Despite minor disruptions, police maintained order and ensured public safety across the country, emphasizing that cooperation between participants and authorities made the demonstrations largely successful.
