Cybercrime warns

The Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center (CICC) warned social media content creators promoting illegal online gambling sites that they may face estafa charges.

CICC deputy executive director Renato Paraiso said that while most influencers have complied with the government’s directive, some remain defiant.

Paraiso said top influencers earn up to P500,000 a week by promoting unregulated gambling sites. Authorities believe these sites rig the system.

He also said that people see gamers who use these platforms as victims. This is why authorities can file large-scale estafa cases against the operators and influencers who promote them.

The CICC opposed a total online gambling ban, warning it could push operations underground and complicate regulation and law enforcement.
