House pushes impeachment

Vice President Sara Duterte is facing impeachment from the House of Representatives, which claims that the case is about duty rather than alleged power politics.

Only the House can initiate impeachment, and Speaker Romualdez said archiving the case was purely a matter of duty.

Romualdez insisted the impeachment articles weren’t a power play, but followed the Constitution’s process to hold public officials accountable.

SP Chiz Escudero urged House members not to use the Senate as a platform to target or attack political opponents.

He called on the House to avoid using the Senate as a platform to target political rivals rather than as a partner in any ambitious plan.

Additionally, Romualdez maintained that the impeachment case was not handled “haphazardly” but rather was buried.

De Lima claimed the Senate prioritized preserving power over ensuring accountability, criticizing its stance on recent impeachment and oversight issues.

House prosecutor Joel Chua said the impeachment complaint, filed in line with the Constitution and laws, was ready for trial.

Chua said the Supreme Court’s ruling imposed excessive limits, undermining the House’s exclusive constitutional authority to file impeachment charges.

Rep. Abante said the vice president’s 2028 election prospects are irrelevant; impeachment should focus solely on accountability and constitutional duty.
