Malacañang suspends

Malacañang suspended government work and classes in Metro Manila and 29 other provinces on Monday, September 22, as Super Typhoon Nando (international name: Ragasa) threatened Luzon.

Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin issued Memorandum Circular No. 97 on Sunday after the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council recommended the move. The suspension covered provinces including Batanes, Cagayan, Isabela, Ilocos Norte, Pangasinan, Batangas, and Cavite.

Authorities ordered frontline health and emergency personnel to report for duty. Local chief executives outside the covered areas may declare suspensions if needed, while private firms may exercise discretion.

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. earlier directed full government mobilization to prepare for the super typhoon. PAGASA reported that Nando intensified on Sunday morning and could bring up to 200 millimeters of rain in 24 hours.

The storm was last located east of Cagayan and may pass close or make landfall over the Babuyan Islands before leaving the Philippine Area of Responsibility on Tuesday.
